On a sunny day in the middle of June 2025, our 11-month-old daughter woke up from her crip with a swollen elbow. We thought she may have just twisted in her crib and continued to monitor it. A few days later we took her into quick care, after going home with a referral to orthopedics, we received a call from the hospital to go straight to the E.R. After a full body scan was done, we stood speechless hugging our daughter as we were told she had multiple healing fractures throughout her body. During a time that should have been focused on our daughter’s health, our family was ripped apart. Our daughter, who was always smiling, always happy, was being taken by DCFS. The state abuse doctor denied our requests for any kind of genetic testing.
A friend had sent us a video she saw on facebook about a family going through almost the same thing we were dealing with and that is how we discovered EDS. After doing our research we requested the court to take our daughter to see Dr. Holick in Boston. He provided answers that were science backed and he listened to our story with empathy. DCFS’s investigation was biased with a Dr. on their side who refused to even look for a medical reason. Dr. Holick gave us the ability to fight a broken system.
